Societies that attach importance to education have high levels of development, which was the case in the past, too. Today, the quality of education is as valuable as the number of educated people. It is also important that education spreads throughout the society. Various institutions and organizations do research and collect data to determine the features of education in individual countries. The obtained data are interpreted by different branches of specialization through their distinctive methods. Educational geography deals with the examination and evaluation of the educational data of a population. On the other hand, natural resources and human beings do not have an equal distribution across the world. Where these resources exist, why they come into existence, and how they affect one another are subjects of geography. Educational geography, on the other hand, focuses on relationships between these data and education. It presents educational data by associating them with natural and human conditions at global and local levels. It explains the educational qualifications of people on a cause and effect basis. The evaluation of Tekirdağ province in terms of educational geography is important. There is a need to examine and evaluate what is education like in districts of Tekirdağ province as well as how educated its population is.
The present study is significant in that it handles the educational status of Tekirdağ province and evaluates relevant data from the perspective of educational geography. Statistical data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute were used in the study as well as the sources containing information on the subject. The data obtained in the study indicate that the average number of students and the average number of teachers in Tekirdağ province are close to countrywide averages. On the other hand, investments in education should continue in Tekirdağ province which intensely lets in migrants and has more and more population every passing day so that there is no school deficit, and no problem is experienced in education. Otherwise, deficiencies and problems may arise.
Finally, in the present study, attention was focused on some indicators showing the educational status of Tekirdağ province based on educational data related to it, and the population was analyzed in terms of educational geography.
