Focus and Scope

FOCUS & SCOPE

International Journal of Assessment Tools in Education (IJATE) is a peer-reviewed online journal. IJATE publishes original theoretical and empirical articles in psycho-educational assessment. Theoretical articles addressing new developments in measurement and innovative applications are welcome. IJATE publishes articles appropriate for audience of educational measurement specialists and practitioners.

Articles focusing on,

  • Measurement processes & techniques

  • Innovative approaches for developing measurement instruments

  • Innovative assessment strategies

  • Cross-cultural assessments

  • Large-scale assessment reports

  • Validity studies

  • Issues related to measurement & assessment

  • Statistical methods in educational & psychological research

are examples to appropriate topics for consideration.

Note that manuscripts outside the domain of Educational Measurement and Assessment and manuscripts reporting routine investigations are unlikely to be published in IJATE.

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY

IJATE releases 3 issues in a year (January, May, and September). The full articles are published on-line one month before the date of release.

 

FOR AUTHORS

Before submitting your manuscript, carefully read focus and scope of IJATE to make sure that your work is a good fit for this journal.

All submissions are made with the understanding that all work is original and fully referenced, and the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

The text of manuscripts needs to conform to the style of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 6th ed.) For details please go to http://www.apastyle.org/.

Acceptable formats for submitted manuscripts are Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).

All tables, charts, graphs, and equations must be submitted in an editable format (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Equation Editor, or LaTeX).

Provide accurate contact details for corresponding author.

Openly disclose the source of all data and third party materials, including previously unpublished work by the authors themselves.

  • The author bears the responsibility for checking whether material submitted is subject to copyright or ownership rights, eg figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, trade literature and data. The author will need to obtain permission to reproduce any such items, and include these permissions with their final submission. Where use is so restricted, the Editor/editorial office and Publisher must be informed with the final submission of the material.

  • Please add any necessary acknowledgments to the typescript, preferably in the form of an Acknowledgments section at the end of the paper. Credit the source and copyright of photographs, figures, illustrations etc. in the accompanying captions.

Openly disclose any conflict of interest - for example, if publication were to benefit a company or services in which the author(s) has a vested interest.

Expect to sign a copyright assignment form on acceptance of their work, which will assume that the author is empowered to assign copyright to the Publisher.

Expect the editor to scan submissions using plagiarism detection software at iThenticate to check a paper's originality before sending out for review.

Fully correspond and comply with the editor and publisher in any requests for source data, proof of authorship or originality in a timely manner, providing reasonable explanation for discrepancies or failures to disclose vital information.

Fully co-operate with any consequent investigations if the editor and/or publisher are dissatisfied with the evidence available or the explanations provided.

Expect transparency, efficiency and respect from the publisher and the editor during the submissions process.

Remain in good communication with both the publisher and the editor(s).

When necessary, submit corrigenda in a timely and responsible fashion.

Co-operate fully with the publication of errata and with the retraction of articles found to be unethical, misleading or damaging.

Remain in good communication with the editor(s), the publisher and any co-authors.

Manuscript deviating from the guidelines above will not be sent out for review

 

FOR EDITORS

In reviewing and publication process, editor(s) should;

  • Protect the reputation of the journal and published works by taking great care publishing highest quality and relevant works in a timely manner

  • Perform initial quality check and editorial assessment for submissions. This process includes but not limited to making decision on articles which may not be sent out for peer review due to conflict with the focus and scope of IJATE, poor quality of work, and any other justifiable reason)

  • Contribute and organize a transparent review and publication process in which full respect and care paid to the author(s)

  • Publishing Editorial, corrections, corrigenda, errata when necessary.

 

FOR REVIEWERS

Reviewers are responsible for;

  • Providing written, unbiased feedback in a timely manner

  • In feedback focusing on scientific merit and value of the work; indicating ways to improve it

  • Stating scientific accuracy, originality, and importance to the audience

  • Indicating whether the writing is clear, concise and relevant to journal’s scope

  • Maintaining confidentiality of the review process among reviewers responsibilities

  • Providing a thoughtful, fair, constructive, and informative critique

  • Recommendation toward acceptance or rejection

  • Noting any ethical concerns

  • Ensuring that manuscript cites all relevant work in the literature

 

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Based on initial editor screening, manuscripts undergo rigorous double-blind peer review by two anonymous referees. When necessary, the referees’ criticism and suggestions may be sent to the author(s) for them to be able to revise or make the suggested corrections. Review process normally takes 2-3 months.

ETHICAL POLICY

We expect all authors to read and understand our ethics policy before submitting to IJATE. This is in accordance with our commitment to the prevention of ethical misconduct. It is important to note that most incidents of plagiarism, redundant publication, copyright infringement or similar occur because of a lack of understanding, and not through fraudulent intent. PLAGIARISM POLICY

Author(s) should always take great care to distinguish their own ideas and statements from information derived from other sources. Quotations and citations must be proper. All paraphrased material must be acknowledged. Based on the initial review, plagiarism detection using iThenticate may be performed within the review process.

PUBLICATION CHARGES

There is no publication process charge for publications in IJATE.
