The scientific and practical seminar «STRESS FACTORS & SECONDARY METABOLITES» with participants from Turkey, Belarus and Ukraine was carried out at December 11-16, 2017 at Kiev, Ukraine. In plenary presentation speaker from Turkey Prof. Ramazan Mammadov shed light on the introduction to secondary metabolites, their history of learning, and biosynthesis and application nowadays. In keynote speech Prof. Dzhamal Rakhmetov highlighted the role of the secondary metabolites in the adaptation of introduced plants in Ukraine. And Dr Iryna Kondratskaya from Belarus presented post-genomic technologies (in vitro, tissue and cell culture) in the creation of intergeneric and interspecific hybrids of perennial cereal grosses.
Speakers from Belarus Dr Hanna Shutava and Dr Sviatlana Shysh demonstrated the alterations in the composition of secondary metabolites and antioxidant status of transgenic roots of Artemisia spp. plants after Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated genetic transformation and how electromagnetic radiation of low intensity effects biosynthesis of phenolic compounds. Temporal dynamics of the de-epoxidation state of the xanthophylls cycle in winter wheat flag leaves to irradiance change under elevated temperature was reported by DrSc Galina Priadkina (Ukraine).
Some presentations were shown by young researchers Olena Nesterenko, Andrii Potrokhov, Sergey Litvinov, Dr. Svitlana Pchelovska, Lidiya Khudolieieva and Dr. Nataliia Levchyk from several scientific organizations. Investigation of plants response to different stress factors and their combination are going relevant in conditions of contrast changes of climatic situation and currently unstable environment. Special attention is paid to understanding the pathways and interconnections of signal systems, and search for specific and nonspecific aspects of plant response during adaptation process. Abiotic stress is considered to be one of the main reasons for the loss of more than 50% harvest of different crops worldwide. For example, drought and salinity decrease crops yield by 20-40% and temperature increase above optimum as well as by 15%. The abstracts of all presentations were published electronically at web-site of the Institute of Cell Biology and Genetic Engineering of NAS of Ukraine http://icbge.org.ua/eng/Seminar_%C2%ABStress_Factors_%26_Secondary_Metabolites%C2%BB_/_2017#Contacts
The seminar was theoretical as well as practical high meaning.
