This article aims to make a sociological description of the Circassian diaspora in Jordan. The study targets to analyse the contemporary Circassian diaspora in Jordan (in the year 2003), to investigate the selfidentification of the people living in the region; to look into the perception about the Caucasus, Russia and the diaspora’s future, and to reveal the links with the historical homeland and their impact on the developments there. The article is based on the field materials collected by the author in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Abkhazia, and in Moscow in 2001-2002. The results and conclusions of this study should be treated as hypothetical and needs to be corrected in the course of further research.
Makalede Ürdün Çerkes diasporasının sosyolojik açıdan tasviri yapılmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın temel amacı Ürdün’de yaşayan Çerkes diasporasının günümüzdeki (2003) durumunu analiz etmek, özellikle bölgede yaşayan Çerkeslerin kendilerini tanımlama şekillerini incelemek; Kafkasya, Rusya ve diasporanın geleceğiyle ilgili düşünceleri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmak; diasporanın tarihi vatanlarıyla olan bağlarına ve bu bölgedeki duruma olan etkilerine ışık tutmaktır.
Makale yazarın 2001-2002 yıllarında Ürdün’de, Kabardey-Balkar ve Abhazya Cumhuriyeti'nde ve Moskova’da gerçekleştirdiği alan çalışmalarına dayanmaktadır. Elde edilen bulgular, ileride düzeltmelere ihtiyaç duyan hipotezler olarak ortaya konmuştur.
В статье рассматривается черкесская диаспора в Иордании в связи с самоидентификацией,
представлениями об исторической родине и влиянием на ситуацию на Северном Кавказе.
