Effect of Boron Addition on Mechanical Properties of Cast AISI 304 Stainless Steel

Bu çalışmada, döküm yöntemiyle üretilen AISI 304 paslanmaz çelik malzemeye değişik oranlarda Al-Ti-B master alaşımı ve ferrobor ilave edilerek mikro yapı ve mekanik özelliklere etkisi araştırılmıştır. Numunelerin mikroyapısı ve kırılma modları, optik mikroskop, SEM, X-ışını kırınım analizi ve mikroanalizler ise EDX’la yapılmıştır. Deney sonuçları, ilave edilen bor içeriğine bağlı olarak mekanik özeliklerin iyileştiği tespit edilmiştir. SEM mikroyapılarından 1000oC homojenlenen numunelerde sünek kırılma, döküm durumu numunelerde ise gevrek kırılma modu tespit edilmiştir.

In this study AISI 304 stainless steel material was produced by the method of casting, while the production different ratios of B have been added from Al-Ti-B master alloy, the effect of B addition to the micro structure and mechanical properties of produced AISI 304 stainless steel materials were investigated. The microstructures and wear scars of the specimens were examinedby optical, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray microanalyses by EDX.

As a result of experiments, improvement of mechanical properties depending on the amount of added B was observed. Ductile fracture was found in the samples homogenized with 1000 oC from SEM microstructure and brittle fracture mode was found in the casting cases.
