ALFRED MARSHALL: THE CONCEPTION OF ‘A MAN OF FLESH AND BLOOD’
ALFRED MARSHALL: ‘KANLI-CANLI’ İNSAN ANLAYIŞI

Alfred Marshall objected the idea of ‘rational economic man’ contrary to the other leading figures of neoclassical economics, despite he is evaluated as a neoclassical economist. According to him economics was a changeable, complicated and evolutionary discipline, and this idea which neglects human’s social and cultural sphere, emotions, intuitions, desires and habits was inadequate to explain this complicated sphere. Instead of this concept Marshall suggested the idea of ‘a man of flesh and blood’ which reflects the relationships of human with his/her social and historical context. And this paper aims to examine Marshall’s conceptions of science and ’economics’ and to reveal the essential of his conception of ‘a man of flesh and blood’.
