Nanostructured cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films were fabricated on glass substrates by using chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. Different concentrations of maltose (C12H22O11,α-D-Glukopiranozil-(1→4)-α-D-Glukopiranoz) were used as an additive in the growth solutions. The influence of maltose on structural, morphological and optical properties of CdS films has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis.) analysis. The analysis showed that the values of crystallite size of the films decreases with increasing maltose concentration in the bath and the uniformity of the films increases with increasing maltose concentrations. Also, both the optical band gap value and transmission rate increases with increasing maltose concentration. These results show that increasing maltose concentration in the growth solution remarkably affects the surface morphology, crystal structure, band gap and transmittance of the nanostructured CdS films.
